Meet James C. Higgs, an experienced family law attorney. James obtained his undergraduate degree from Great Lakes Christian College. He completed law from Cooley Law School. Attorney Higgs is a member of the State Bar of Michigan. He is also a member of the Federal Bar in the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. He is also active in the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.

James is passionate about practicing family law. He enjoys cases involving the best interest of the children. James ensures the Court is finding and enforcing what is in the best interest of the children. He believes that children are the most vulnerable members of society. Children deserve the highest degree of protection. More so in cases where they are caught in the middle of a family dispute.

Becoming an attorney is a journey for James was an interesting one. He was a Youth and Children’s Pastor at a growing church when his father suddenly passed away. He went through a dark period. He took a sabbatical from ministry to discover where he needed to be. During that time, he took a battery of exams that included both aptitude for careers and the LSAT. James achieved a near-perfect score on the LSAT. James attended law school and found it to be amazing, which led him to become a lawyer.

James is the only attorney in his family. His best day as an attorney was when he successfully returned custody to a client in a three-day trial. His client had been falsely accused. The client was left with no parenting time for over a year before he retained James. During the trial, James presented compelling evidence. He prove the accusations were false and not believable. The judge announced that he was grateful to James. No one was doing the right thing for the children. The other attorneys involved had abused the process. James was filled with pride and emotion. Being able to witness his client’s reunion with his daughters was a powerful moment for James. There were tears all around.

James goes kayaking and hiking. He enjoys spending time with his family.
