Difference Between a Divorce and Legal Separation in Michigan

The jurisdictional requirements to file for separate maintenance are the same as in a divorce. At least one party must be a resident of the state of Michigan for at least 180 days prior to filing, and must also be a resident of the county filed in for at least 10 days prior to filing.
